Tarpon and Mullet March Painting
Fishing trips as a kid in the Keys were some of the most magical times of my life, and they provided the inspiration for "Tarpon & Mullet March." The vivid memories of those trips are still etched in my mind, especially the moments when you’d find yourself on the water at the perfect time, watching the incredible dance between the Tarpon and Mullet.
I remember those days clearly—early mornings when the air was still cool, and the sun was just beginning to rise. The water was crystal clear, and you could see the silver flash of the Mullet darting through the shallows, being relentlessly pursued by Tarpon. The way the fish moved in synchronized chaos, a beautiful frenzy of life, left me in awe every time. The Tarpon, with their massive, powerful bodies, seemed to almost glide effortlessly through the water, while the Mullet swarmed in tight schools, doing their best to evade capture.
Years later, that image still plays out in my mind. The feeling of the boat drifting just outside the action, the sun reflecting off the water, and the powerful splash of a Tarpon leaping into the air after a Mullet. It’s a moment of pure natural energy, one that speaks to the heart of what fishing in the Keys is all about.
So, I decided to put that picture on canvas, capturing not just the scene, but the emotion of it—the rush of watching nature’s raw beauty unfold right in front of you. "Tarpon & Mullet March" is more than just a painting; it’s a tribute to those childhood memories and the timeless connection between the ocean, the fish, and the memories we create on the water.
