The Man Behind the Brand
Artistic, even at a young age, K.C. won many awards throughout Elementary and High School. However, art was not the career path he chose. His father, a golf professional, ran the family business of multiple golf courses. K.C.’s early exposure to the game of golf led to a love and passion for the game. From a young age he excelled on the golf course winning many junior and amateur tournaments. His success on the golf course earned him a scholarship to play golf at the collegiate level. He chose Michigan State University where he played for two years, then decided to transfer to Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. He competed for three years at Barry University and graduated with a degree in Business and Sport Management. After college the daunting question of what to do next was easy for K.C., he turned professional and put his golf game up against the best. He competed on Mini Tour circuits all over the U.S. with a fair amount of success; the highlight of his professional career came in 2003 when he qualified for the PGA Tour’s Buick Open. However, after six years of dedication and frustration on the golf circuit, he decided to take a break from the game he loved.
In the fall of 2008 the needed break from golf allowed him time to venture back into his passion of art and the underwater world. In a very short period of time K.C.'s work started to draw major attention, which fueled his fire to create more intriguing works of art. Fortunately, his vast experience of both freshwater and saltwater fish gave him a huge catalogue of images to pull from and put on canvas. K.C. paints what moves him. The beauty of the Bluegills and Largemouth Bass of his native waters in Gull Lake, and the Redfish, Snook, Tarpon, and Sailfish of his home in Florida all inspire him to create his lifelike images on canvas. He not only catches and studies these fish, but he also gets in the water and photographs them in their natural environment. This gives K.C. points of reference to ensure his paintings are as lifelike as possible. For him, the fish and their environment exist as one. He wants people to feel as though they are face to face with the fish, as if they could reach out, touch the canvas, and feel the cool waters of the lakes and oceans!
